The history of golf is truly global. Some narratives attribute the sport to the classical world in ancient Rome and China. The sport was further developed  throughout Medieval Europe, shaping it into the sport we play today. Contemporary golf definitively traces its roots back to Scotland during the 15th century. Golf is a club and ball sport in which players attempt to hit a small ball into a hole in the ground by using a variety of clubs in the fewest number of strokes. Golf is a game of precision. Players must avoid elemental obstacles such as rough grass, sand, and water while attempting to play their ball into the hole with only a few strokes.
