The Department of Recreation offers 1-month/3-month/1-year memberships to all within the UCSB community and surrounding areas.   

All memberships can be purchased in person at the Recreation Center's Customer Service Center. The Customer Service Center is open Monday—Friday 8:30 am-7 pm. All membership terms begin on the date of purchase.

Adult Day Pass

Adults 18 years of age and older may purchase a Recreation Center Day Pass throughout the entire calendar year. The Day Pass fee will not be deducted from future membership purchase. Day Passes will expire at closing of date activated, it is not valid for a 24 hour period.

Child/Teen Day Pass

During the academic year (Fall through Spring) children/teens of Rec Cen Members are permitted within the facility 10AM-6PM on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday). Parent or legal guardian must be present to enroll child/teen for Day Pass and sign waiver of liability.

  • Child/teen of current UCSB Students: Child/teen of current, full time UCSB student with a active recreation membership, age 17 and under are free for access during the permitted times of the academic year stated above. 
  • Child/teen of current Rec Cen Members : Child/teen of current Rec Cen Members, age 17 and under are allowed access during the permitted times of the academic year stated above, with the purchase of a child/teen day pass. 
  • Child/teen of non-UCSB Students or non-Rec Cen MembersNo day pass sales during academic year.

  • Children under 13 must have direct adult supervision at all times. 
  • Children 13 and older can come to the Recreation Center without a parent/guardian, but must still follow the age requirements of each area.
  • Guests 18 and older have all adult privileges

DETERMINING MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY GROUP

Community
Anyone not directly affiliated (Student, Faculty/Staff, Alumni, Retiree, etc) with the university.

Dependent
Child/teen (under the age of 18) under the supervision of a legal guardian. Children 13-17 years of age must have a parents or guardian on the premises. Children under the age of 13 years must have direct parental supervision at all times. 

Faculty & Staff
UCSB faculty or staff with at least a 50% campus appointment.

Non-Registered Student
UCSB students not enrolled in class during the term they wish to have access to the recreation center may purchase a membership at a reduced rate. Students must provide proof of either previous or subsequent quarter registration.

Retiree
Any retired UC Campus or Office of the President (UCOP) faculty/staff member. Must show proof of retired status.

Sponsored
The spouse or Domestic Partner of a UCSB faculty/staff member. Must show proof of marriage or California Domestic Partner Registration.

Student
UCSB students enrolled in at least 12 units (Grad Students 8 units) and have paid their student fees. Students who are not full-time must purchase a "Non-Registered Student" membership in order to have access to the recreation complex.

Note: Must have UCSB Perm Number to qualify. Only available in the quarter immediately after graduation or if the student is not registered for the current quarter but can show proof of registration from the previous quarter.

UCSB Alumni
Any graduate from UCSB. In order to validate alumni status, individuals must email alumni@alumni.ucsb.edu  and request verification. Once email verification is received, please print a copy of your email and bring it with you when you sign up for your membership in person. Additionally, anyone who purchased an Alumni Association Membership prior to Nov 1, 2017 (including non-UCSB alumni) and has an active recreation membership, may continue to renew their membership at the alumni rate.
Note: Alumni Association Memberships must be maintained and NOT overlap in order to keep alumni rate.
 

UC Reciprocity
During the academic year, visiting full-time students, faculty and staff with valid UC IDs and membership at their recreation center, will be admitted at no charge to rec sports facilities system-wide. Faculty and staff should attain a UC visitors pass from the membership office at their respected recreation facility. At specialty facilities, i.e. aquatic centers, equestrian centers, etc., the visiting students may participate by paying the standard campus student rate.

UC Reciprocity is meant for those students, faculty and staff that are traveling or visiting other UC schools on an occasional basis. Access for extended periods (more than 1 week) may require the purchase of an applicable membership. UC Reciprocity does not extend to the Hastings School of Law and excludes participation in IM Sports and Sport Clubs.

MEMBERSHIP POLICIES AND INFORMATION

Refund Policy

Membership refunds are reviewed and granted only at the discretion of the administrative supervisor. Refund request forms can be picked-up and submitted in person at the Customer Service Center (CSC). Submitting a refund form DOES NOT GUARANTEE A REFUND.

All refunds are subject to the following policies:

  • Notification of refund status will be sent via email once processed.
  • Membership Refunds can NOT be transferred across programs/services.
  • Refunds/transfers for short-term memberships (1-month and 3-month) are NOT available; excluding unprecedented circumstances. There are NO refunds for day passes.
  • Refunds for annual memberships will only be considered by the administrative supervisor for following reasons within the first 5-months and will be subject to a one month cancellation and $10 administration fee: 
    • Changes in medical condition resulting in physical limitations
    • Medical conditions require doctors note to be submitted at time of refund request form submission.
    • Relocation
  • Refunds, if given, take four to six weeks to process through university accounting.
  • If granted, the refund will be sent to the address provided on the submitted refund request form.

Cancellation Policy

  • All cancellations must be made in writing (e-mails will be accepted).
  • Patrons on the annual Payroll Deduction membership will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee and it will be deducted from your paycheck for early cancellation. 
    • A Payroll Deduction form must be picked-up and completed at the Customer Service Center (CSC) in order to process a cancellation. 
    • Payroll Deduction memberships can take one billing cycle for the request to be processed by campus payroll. 

Membership Transfer and Credit Policy
All memberships are non-transferable.
