Program Overview

The UCSB Sport Club program is comprised of various student organizations that have a focus for a particular sport or for learning a new sport. While clubs are organized for the primary purpose of competition, our program emphasizes skill development, team building and socialization. All clubs practice regularly in order to promote and develop the skills and interests of their members.

Sport Club members are attended to by the Department of Recreation athletic training program. Certified athletic trainers and a staff of student interns offer quality healthcare services including first aid, rehabilitation services, injury prevention, and health education for athletes.

The Department of Recreation also offers strength and conditioning services at the Athletic Performance Center (APC) located in Robertson Gymnasium. The APC aims to provide strength and conditioning services designed to enhance athletic performance and decrease probability of injury for all UCSB Sport Club participants. APC staff and student interns make it a goal to provide the means for student athletes to train consistently, sensibly, and systematically in a safe, clean, and professional environment.

Incoming Students

If you are a prospective UCSB student, please visit the UCSB Admissions website to gather information on what to expect during the admissions process, set up campus tours, get information on admission requirements, and more. The Sport Club program cannot help with the acceptance process, but once you are accepted to the University we are happy to help you find a team to get involved with. If you have any program questions, please reach out to our Sport Club Coordinator, Gabriela Ordonez at Gabrielaordonez@ucsb.edu.

Current Students

If you are a current fee-paying UCSB student, contact the leadership of your team of interest for more information—they will be more than willing to answer all of your questions about the team. Once you have selected the team you are interested in joining, you will need to completely register on our online management system known as DSE.

Sport Club teams may require you to try-out before joining. You can find information about tryouts on the individual team pages, social media pages, or by emailing team leadership directly. After acceptance to the team, students will be required to complete all pages of the Sport Club registration, including medical insurance information and health history. All sport club participants are required to complete a pre-participation physical (PPE) and baseline concussion test before being approved for any team activity. You can find more information on how to complete a PPE and baseline concussion test under the Resources tab.

DSE – Registration Software

We require all sport club participants to register for their team(s) on DSE. If you are a new athlete, you will create your profile for the first time. If you are a returning athlete, you will update your information annually. Individual Sport Club registration must be complete and accurate in order to participate in team activities.
