With over 12,000 participants a year, UCSB Intramural Sports continue to be the most popular program on campus. With a vast variety of sports and leagues, UCSB students get the ability to stay fit, compete for an Intramural championship, and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Intramurals are offered throughout the academic year and during the summer. Sign up and enjoy the leisurely side of sports with no rigorous practices, travel, or highly competitive atmosphere. There is a place for everyone and no experience is needed to play. So whether you’re a star athlete looking for some daily competition, or you’re a newcomer to the sport in search of a good time, sign up for an Intramural team and get in the game!
Fall 2024 Registration
To improve the registration process, we are breaking up the registration times of our sports.
- Thursday, September 26 @ Noon: Indoor Soccer & Basketball
- Thursday, September 26 @ 1pm: Outdoor Soccer
- Thursday, September 26 @ 2pm: Volleyball
- Thursday, September 26 @ 3pm: Softball, Flag Football, Ultimate
Registration Options
Intramural Sports offer two ways to register, team or free agent. Team Registration is for team captains that have their teams ready to go. Free Agent Registration is for participants looking to be part of an assigned team. All participants must have a Rec Cen Membership to register. Complete the steps below. Team Registration
- Select your team captain to purchase the team registration on the Department of Recreation Online Store or at the Customer Service Center located in the Rec Cen. You must purchase the registration to guarantee your place in the league.
- Use the IMLeagues platform to create your team after you have purchased your team registration. Captains that have not paid their team registration fee will have their teams removed from IMLeagues.
- Invite your teammates to your IMLeagues team. All teammates must be registered on IMLeagues and on the team roster before check-in for the IM contest.
Free Agent Registration
Players who want to play IM Sports but do not have a team may purchase a place on one of our Free Agent teams.
- Purchase the Free Agent team registration on the Department of Recreation Online Store or at the Customer Service Center located in the Rec Cen. You must purchase the registration to guarantee your place in the league.
- Create an IMLeagues account.
- Join the UCSB organization.
- Accept the invitation to the Free Agent team.
Intramural Sports Athlete Policies
Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) Athletes
ICA athletes are only allowed to participate in the most advanced league that is offered for their related sports. Additionally, no team may have more than one ICA athlete for their related sport. Individuals maintain ICA status for one full academic year. Criteria for determining ICA status is any individual that is a member of varsity, junior varsity, or freshman intercollegiate team. This includes individuals who have suited up for an intercollegiate contest, practiced with an ICA team after the last cut, or redshirted for an intercollegiate team.
Sport Club Athletes
Sport Club athletes are only allowed to participate in the most advanced league that is offered for their sports. Additionally, no team may have more than two Sport Club athletes for their related sport. Individuals maintain Sport Club athlete status for one full academic year.
