The UCSB Sport Club program is comprised of student organizations that have a focus for a particular sport or for learning a new sport. While clubs are organized for the primary purpose of competition, our program emphasizes skill development, team building and socialization. All clubs practice regularly in order to promote and develop the skills and interests of their members.

Sport Club members are attended to by the Department of Recreation Athletic Training Room (ATR) located in Robertson Gymnasium. Certified Athletic Trainers and a staff of student interns offer quality healthcare services including first aid, rehabilitation services, injury prevention, and health education for athletes.

Eligibility

Only full-time, fee-paying, UC Santa Barbara undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the Sport Club program. Extension students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Community Members, SBCC students, etc. are not eligible. Sport Club participants must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be in good academic standing in order to participate in club activities. Part-time UCSB students are eligible to participate in Non-Competitive Sport Clubs.

Sport Club Inclusion Statement

No member shall be excluded for any reason, including but not limited to race, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, citizenship, weight, disability, veteran status, or any other factors covered by law. Students may participate in the gender-specific club that affirms their personal gender identity.

Prospective Students

If you are a prospective UCSB student, please visit the UCSB Admissions website to gather information on what to expect during the admissions process, set up campus tours, get information on admission requirements, and more. The Sport Club program cannot help with the acceptance process, but once you are accepted to the university we are happy to help you find a team to get involved with. If you have any program questions, please reach out to our Sport Club Coordinator, Kylie Jasnoch at kyliejasnoch@ucsb.edu.

Current Students

If you are a current UCSB student, contact the leadership of your team of interest for more information. They will be more than willing to answer all of your questions about the team. Once you have selected a team you are interested in joining, you will need to completely register on our online management system known as DSE.

Competitive Sport Club teams may require you to attend a skills assessment before joining. You can find information about skills assessment on the teams' social media pages or by emailing team leadership directly. After acceptance to the team, students will be required to complete all pages of the Sport Club registration, including medical insurance information and health history. Sport Club athletes can expect to be charged a $50 Sport Club Admin Fee upon registering for a team. These funds help cover costs associated with Athletic Training Room (ATR), the Athletic Performance Center (APC), and other Sport Club expenses.

All Sport Club participants are required to complete a Pre-Participation Exam (PPE) and Concussion Baseline Testing before being approved for any team activity. Unapproved students are not eligible to participate in any Sport Club activity. You can find more information on how to complete a PPE and Concussion Baseline Test here.

Non-Competitive Sport Clubs are open to any full or part time UCSB fee paying student. See Non-Competitive Sport Clubs for information on our current teams and how to join. Extension/Pace students and Community Members are not eligible.

DSE – Registration Software

We require all Sport Club participants to register for their team(s) on DSE. If you are a new athlete, you will create your profile for the first time. If you are a returning athlete, you will update your information annually. Individual Sport Club registration must be complete and accurate in order to participate in team activities.

Are there other ways to be involved with sports at UCSB Recreation?

Yes! If Sport Clubs are not the right fit for you, UCSB Recreation also offers sports through our Intramural Sports and Gaucho R.E.C. programs. Intramural Sports do not require travel or practice, students compete against other students in quarterly leagues that end with an Intramural Championship game. Gaucho R.E.C. sports classes are hosted on campus each quarter and teach you how to play sports such as tennis or pickleball.
