How to Participate

  1. Download the GooseChase App and join the game “UCSB Step Up Your Summer” or use Game Code 5DGGDV

  2. Pick your step tracking device! You can record your steps using any step tracking device including a Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin Watch, the health app on your phone, etc.

  3. Participate in daily step and wellness challenges

  4. Have fun and learn the tools to live a healthy lifestyle!

The main focus of this challenge is physical health, which will be measured by steps. Everyday over the course of the two week challenge you’ll have the opportunity to record your daily steps. Points will be given for steps between 5,000-20,000+, broken up into increments of 5,000.

The more steps you take, the more points you’ll earn, but we encourage you to make a step goal that works for you. You’ve probably heard of the 10,000-step daily goal, according to Fitbit, here’s why: “It adds up to about five miles each day for most people, which includes about 30 minutes of daily exercise—satisfying the CDC’s recommendation of at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Thing is, 10,000 steps per day might not make sense for you. You may need to nab more if you want to lose a certain amount of weight or take fewer steps if you’re new to fitness or recovering from an injury. Your step goal can vary depending on your needs, and it can also shift over time.”

You can record your steps using any step tracking device including a Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin Watch, the health app on your phone, etc. Make sure to take pictures/ screenshots at the end of every day. Unfortunately, the GooseChase app does not allow you to submit photos from your camera roll, so instead we’ll ask you to answer questions and manually enter your step count. This means we are using the honor system, so please be honest. Cheating will not be tolerated, nor is it fun for anyone. Winners of the contest will be asked to submit proof at the end of the competition, so please keep that in mind.

In addition to the daily physical challenge, everyday will be themed with an aspect of living a healthy lifestyle including Mindfulness, Sleep, Hydration, Gratitude, Nutrition, Socialness, and Self-Care. Get extra points and learn some healthy tips by participating in these challenges.
